Registered voters in Ripley to receive beer petitions

This week, registered voters living in the city of Ripley will receive a petition in the mail to bring the issue of the sale of alcohol within the Ripley city limits to a vote. The petition is an effort initiated by Ripley for a Vote, a non-profit volunteer group working to give registered voters within the city limits the opportunity to vote on the sale of alcohol in the city of Ripley.
The petition will provide voters with instructions for completion.
Following in the footsteps of New Albany, Corinth and Senatobia, the group has more than 500 signatures, approximately 60 percent of the required 800 signatures necessary to bring the issue to a vote.

It is so sad to read in the paper that Ripley is wanting to “follow in the footsteps” of other counties who have legalized the sale of alcohol. The Bible says in Exodus 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
Someone will read that verse and say, That is Old Testament, but Jesus said, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

I wonder what the motive is for bringing the sale of alcohol into our town. Proverbs 20:1 says, Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Don’t be deceived, God is not mocked. We will reap what we sow in this town. Are we not concerned about what will happen to our kids. Is no one concerned about the youth anymore. Whatever happened to setting a good example! I’m convinced that most of the people in Ripley are lost. There is no way that Bible believing Christians are wanting to even get this issue of the sale of alcohol on the voting ballot.

I realize that this email will probley not even be read. Too much Bible for one and people these days hate the truth. They hate the Bible because it exposes our sin and they would crucify Jesus if He were here bodily today. I will be praying that you reconsider and repent if you are saved and if your lost, I pray you will be convicted and ask Jesus to save you. Hell is hot and the Bible says, But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. I think we should keep this vote off the ballot and start setting a Christian example in our homes and communities. Let’s get back to God and keep our community separate from all these other counties that want to raise kids to become alcoholics.

Alcohol destroys homes and kids don’t need to see alcohol sold in our stores. They are exposed to enough ungodly material as it is. Do you want to add to it? Do you not love your kids? The Bible says that images hurt our minds. Numbers 33:52 says, Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: That’s what the Bible says whether you believe it or not. Let God be true and every man a liar! I’m sick and tired of Christians not taking a stand ! You better believe that The Lord is coming soon and this isn’t a small matter. It’s serious and it will be taken serious. Please think about this and decide that alcohol sold in our town will not be a good thing. Have a nice day.

Amen. I live in New Albany, where we now have beer sales and in March, there will be a city wide vote on liquor.

When beer was voted on initially, it included those of us who live in the county. And those of us who live in the county, excluding a small vote, voted against it and it was not passed.

Then, the people who so longed for it to pass, wriggled around the system and fanagled until they were able to put it as a vote again, but this time, it was only voted upon in the city. It passed.

So, now that liquor is coming to a vote in March, guess who will be excluded from having a voice? You guessed it. The people of Union County who live OUTSIDE the city limits will not be heard on this issue. We were excluded, purposefully, of course.

It saddens me that there are people who actually believe this will be lucrative. Whose pockets will be padded? Who will benefit? You won’t find yourself sitting in a Buffalo Wild Wings in Ripley’s city limits anytime in this millenium! Ripley does NOT have the population regardless of the ability to sell beer or not.

Alcohol destroys people. It destroys homes. Who lives in the homes it destroys? Families. And those families are destroyed by this mocker. The family is the very backbone of society. Why would we want to add one more disease that would eat away at the very heart of it?

I know broken families who were the casualty of alcoholism. I know people who are dead, broke, poor or incarcerated from it. Get real. And get right.

I hate it when my four year old asks questions regarding the “beer caves” in every store in New Albany now. We have lost our innocence in a world where it should be so valued and preserved, especially when we have to see moral decay all around us.
